It seems that every Club has a different rating system and we are no exception. Our trail rating is based on the fact that we have a Gladiator which requires a much greater clearance/lift kit, tire height and off-road capability than a four door or a two door Jeep. Rule of thumb is that to clear the same obstacle; you will need a 2 door Jeep with 33 inch tires, a 4 door Jeep with 35 inch tires and a Jeep Gladiator with 37 inch tires!
Easy/Green Trails 1-2:
Suitable for any 4×4 stock Jeep. No aftermarket modifications required. Trails can be driven in 4W High. These trails are suitable for any Jeep models and are perfect for those with limited off-road experience. Trail damage is mostly limited to loose bolts and Arizona Pinstriping.
Medium/Moderate/Blue Trails 3-4
These trails will require a bit more off-road experience and some upgrades to your rig. Trails are more rutted, rocky and sandy. Sideways tilt is possible. Shelf roads are narrow and close to the edge. For a Gladiator, multiple point turns may be required. Arizona Pinstriping is highly possible, unless stated otherwise. Some 4W Low driving will be required. For Gladiators, we recommend 35 inch tires and above but not required with careful tire placement.
Difficult/Red Trails 5-7
This is where you’re starting to play with big boys. Trails are typically steep in elevation; boulders are large, waterfalls are tall and tilt angles are scary. High articulation and high clearance are a must! For a Gladiator, you will need at a minimum a 2.5 inch lift kit (4+ highly beneficial), 35 inch tires (37+ recommended), a winch, front and rear lockers and skid plates are highly recommended. Body damage is possible.
EXTREME Trails 8-10
There aren’t many of these in Arizona, but they do exist. These trails are for highly skilled drivers looking for extremely challenging terrain. Serious modifications to your Jeep are required! For a Gladiator, you will need 4.5 inch lift kit MINIMUM (6+ inch long arm recommended), 37 inch tires MINIMUM (40+ inch with 60+ Dana Axle recommended), both lockers. Aftermarket steering and full body skid plates are also required. The completion of these trails will test both drivers and equipment to their limits, sometimes leaving both bruised and vehicles broken!!! Body damage is pretty much guaranteed!
